Dear Grandview Middle School Community

It is with great excitement that I greet you at the end of our first quarter of the school year. Your children are growing very quickly, academically, emotionally, and socially. I thank each one of you for sharing and entrusting your child to our care.

As educators, we are striving to create safe and stimulating learning environments in which to encourage and support your child. The teachers meet weekly to work on a viable curriculum to support the 21st Century skills of communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity. As the school staff identifies and builds upon your child’s academic strengths and weaknesses, I ask that you collaborate with us to guarantee your children come every day prepared to learn and grow. I ask you to provide the patterns that allow your child to get adequate night’s rest, provide healthy eating opportunities, ensure your child makes it to school regularly and on time, and support discipline issues that are brought to your attention by our staff.

My vision as the new Grandview Middle School principal is to demonstrate to our children that the parents/guardians and school staff work together collaboratively to ensure their success. Please understand the enormous role you play in creating a successful educational outcome for your child. The staff at GMS, as well as myself, welcome your input, comments, and concerns. Without every stakeholder, there is no way we will reach the goals for your student or the school as a whole. If there is anything I can do to aid you in your partnering with us at the school, please let me know.

Finally, I would like to wish everyone a happy holiday season.

Dr. Smith, VaShawn D.
